Caveat: Tree #1572 “The witness”

This tree was upstaged by a deer that was calmly supervising traffic. The deer is a bit hard to make out – it’s a little bit left of center.

Caveat: Tree #1569 “Not far from home”

This tree was along a winding road; I was out for a morning walk with the dog, a quarter mile from our house.

I finally got around to installing a door on my little shed/greenhouse thingy. I really need to get this shed done so I can use it, so I can begin work on my treehouse again.

Caveat: Tree #1565 “An outing for fuel”

This tree bore witness to my journey to the metropolis of Klawock, where I purchased fuel. We no longer have a gas station in Craig, so fuel purchases require a 7 mile trip to the next town up the road. You can see there’s still a lot of snow on the mountains to the east.

Caveat: Tree #1564 “Rock-catcher”

This tree (which has been decapitated) has caught a rock. It’s a bit hard to see how it fits in, but there is a fairly large rock wedged between two of the cut-off, upthrust branches. I’m wondering how it got there – it’s a few feet off the ground.

Caveat: Tree #1563 “Robinson Crusoe”

This tree had a mountain behind it.

I built a shelf in my greenhouse. I was particularly proud of the fact that I used entirely “found” and “trash” items to build it – wood abandoned on the side of the road, some particle board shelf pieces found in the dumpster at work. I get a “Robinson Crusoe” feeling when I can do something like that, which pleases me.

Caveat: Tree #1558 “Magpie tree”

This tree is a guest tree from my past. The tree has a magpie in it. I took the picture in May, 2013 (10 years ago) in the neighborhood near my place of work in Ilsan, South Korea.

Caveat: Tree #1556 “A reculvertization”

This tree saw that a new culvert was installed in the neighbor-to-the-east’s driveway. This has been a needed improvement for a long time: the old culvert was too small and would flood their driveway (and ours, adjacent) when there was a lot of rain. Which is pretty often.

Caveat: Tree #1555 “The eagle’s stare”

This tree (in a neighbor-down-the-road’s yard) got stared at by an eagle (just barely visible perched near the middle of the double-row of disused pier pillars going out into the water).

Caveat: Tree #1546 “Dog on the beach”

This tree hung out near the beach while the dog ran around on the mud flats at low tide, harassing seagulls.

picture

You can see the dog as a white speck at the waterline in the left-center of the picture.

Caveat: Tree #1545 “Veterans”

This tree was in front of the Veterans Center, in town.

picture
I try to stop at the Veterans Center (=VFW Post) in Craig on Thursdays, when Arthur and I go into town for “shopping day.” Art resists, but I think at least some small degree of socialization must be good for him, despite his inclination otherwise. Anyway, he can hang out with other grumpy old men for a while. And Jan, who is the administrative head of the post and has helped much in the past with Veterans-related advocacy-type help, is a reliable friend.
