The dog was wishing she could run
all up and down the road,
but I restrained her with the leash...
she huffed and bore the load.
– a quatrain in ballad meter.

what you need, for a little excitement, is a wheeled sled the dog could pull! Obviously, huskies love to pull – I had a Siberian husky when my children were small. we fixed a harness and hooked him up to their red wagon. they loved him pulling them down the road. of course, he only knew to run so I had to govern his speed & direction by staying alongside the dog. we both got a workout!
Indeed! Penny has proposed I wear some kind of all-terrain roller-skates behind the dog. But I suspect that would require a level of athleticism I lack. Heh. I will definitely say that walking the dog on the leash uses entirely different muscles than normal walking. More of a resistance training.
