Caveat: Left… Right… Peace… Out.

xkcd has one of the most amazing timeline graphics I've seen in a long time: the US Congress' left-right spectrum over time.

xkcd has been moving into more and more interesting and challenging graphics, which I really appreciate. It's become a reliably thought-provoking series and not just an occasional nerdy snicker.

Two days until the election. I absentee voted. I voted my conscience, I wasn't able to select the "lesser of two evils." Oh happy Sunday.

What I'm listening to right now.

Lionrock, "Packet of Peace." I think it's a UK dance track from circa 1993. [update 2014-01-26: The video link was broken, so I found an alternative – though it's only the sound, not the video.]

Interesting. I think this election is not about the lesser of two evils. I think iris about “what do you think the role of government should be”. If you think it should be to provide the greater good for the greater part of the population, like infrastructure, roads and mass transportation, health care etc, then you would vote for the Dems. If you think the role is to support the business of Americ, which is business’ and a conduit to great wealth, then you would vote Republican. As much as I would like to vote Libertarian or Green Party, I don’t want to throw away my vote.
I am back on the train heading for SLO so I can vote Tuesday. Had a great trip. Went to Minnesota in Sept…beautiful place. Evgueny and Marisol live in Minneapolis. Good visit. I am loving being retired and traveling all over. I am glad you vote neither Brenda or Andrew vote…that disappointments me! Looking to make it to Korea next year to visit you. Love, Wendy

  2. I think I’m very strongly what’s called a “foreign policy voter” – and the real problem and disappointment, with Obama, for me, has been foreign policy. I voted for Obama because GW Bush’s foreign policy was so disastrous, but he’s done nothing but accelerate the imperial tendencies Bush started: the drones, the “kill” list, Guantanamo is still open, he brags to the public about was plainly an utterly extra-judicial killing of bin Laden, etc.
So while your points are taken and I’m in agreement on the domestic policy front (though if anything I find Obamacare to be too much of a capitulation to capital and vested interests, for example), my foreign policy slant prohibits me for voting for emperor at the top of the ticket. That said, I voted many dems lower down the ticket, including Keith Ellison, my wonderful Minneapolis congressman.
Thanks for the comment, regardless. Looking forward for if you visit next year.
