Caveat: 왜저래&KEVIN

JaredandkevinI received a phone text message from my student: “왜저래&KEVIN.”  [왜저래 is a joking version of my name in Korean]. It was in conmemoration of my reunion with Kevin the Alligator, who had been kidnapped by a student named Alex and was presumed “lost” or “dead” for 5 long, difficult, very sad days and was only returned Monday. Attached to the phone text message: the picture at left – me seated at my desk in the staff room with Kevin the Alligator.

looks you’re doing well. miss you Jared. when I first looked at 왜저래, I didn’t know why you were called like that. but when I looked at your name again in Korean order “Way Jared” I was like “aha~~~” by the way, just wondering whether you know the meaning of it or not, of course, the Jared I’ve known would know the meaning of it, but my direct translation for that is “What’s wrong with you? what’s up with your head?” so kina implying those nuance. anyway, reading your journal I enjoy. Take care 🙂 Seeyah..
